Unison Newstead – A first in new materials for Blake Sign Co.
Unison is the newest release in Mirvac’s Waterfront, Newstead – a $1 billion master planned community setting new standards for quality, luxury and city convenience in Brisbane.
Unison is imbued with a timeless elegance that embraces community and indoor-outdoor living. Elegantly designed, exquisitely finished apartments command expansive open plan living, spacious balconies and beautiful views, all just a stone’s throw from the river.
Blake Sign Co have been engaged to partner with Mirvac to complete the signage package for the two stage project. Each stage consisting of a 21 story tower, the first having 144 apartments and the second 146 apartments. Both towers share the elevated urban gardens of the recreation deck and its pool facilities which provide light and airy spaces for residents to relax exercise or entertain. The elevated 4000m² garden incorporates a lap pool, plunge pool, outdoor kitchens and entertainment areas along with a gym and health and well-being zones.
A first in new materials for Blake Sign Co saw the apartment numbering and wayfinding signage produced using a combination of pre-coloured 18mm black MDF with a Rowmark Textured Copper laminate face. This combination worked really well and produced a striking combination whilst keeping production simple and cost effective. Blake Sign Co worked closely with the Mirvac design team to come up with the combination and produced a number of sample combinations before we landed on the final result.

The signage package consists of all base build statutory and certification requirements, including Fire Service Signage and DDA compliant facility signage. It then continues with Apartment ID and Wayfinding Signage, Carpark directional and height bars, Facility ID and Rules signage and Main Building Identification Signage.
The signage produced has been a combination of new materials and new production methods along with some old favourites. Fire and service cupboard doors were signed with self-adhesive vinyl lettering applied directly to the door. Braille and tactile facility signage were produced in clear anodised aluminium with custom painted raised text and symbols and stainless steel braille. Other facility doors in common areas on the lower floors were produced in laser cut brushed stainless steel individual lettering. The Main Building ID signage is fabricated stainless steel with LED back-lighting creating a very timeless and elegant effect especially against the beautiful sandstone block work.
Mirvac is renowned for attention to detail, innovative design and finishes of the highest standards which are all key values Blake Sign Co insist on in all aspects of business and are all key to completing a project of this level.
With completion of the first stage in August 2016, Blake Sign Co is now looking forward to working with the Mirvac Constructions team to complete Stage 2 later this year.
